Probe Profiles. After 20 years of battling the cutthroat world of news and public affairs, Probe is famed to be the first and longest-running news magazine show on Philippine television. As if that wasn't enough indication of its effectiveness, a total of 40 trophies (and still counting) from the most prestigious award-giving bodies including the New York International Festival for Television and Film, Yamagata International Festival Documentary and the Southeast Asian Foundation for Children's Television marked its challenging yet successful life on the small screen.

MORE TIME FOR FAMILY
Ms. Lazaro said she decided to give up doing Probe to allow her more time to enjoy her family.
"The decision to end the weekly episodes of Probe -- specifically, Probe Profiles, was a personal one, but done in consultation with my Probe teammates," Ms. Lazaro told BusinessWorld in an e-mail interview.
"I have been doing the weekly deadline for almost 24 years now and I feel that this is a good time to slow down from my professional life and take more time to attend to being a lola (grandmother) to my first apo (grandchild)."
She has been married to businessman Delfin Lazaro for almost 40 years, and together they have two children: Lisa and Carlos.
Ms. Lazaro started her career as a reporter for ABS-CBN. She was the director of the network’s public affairs department from 1985 to 1987.
Ms. Lazaro soon left her position in ABS-CBN to set up Probe Productions, Inc. in 1987. The group produced the news magazine program Probe, which aired on ABS-CBN until 1989.
The show then moved to GMA Network, Inc. and stayed there until 2003 when the network allegedly refused to air a segment about a lifestyle check on a controversial presidential appointee. Ms. Lazaro saw the network’s decision as censorship, prompting her to move to then the Associated Broadcasting Co. (Channel 5). After a year, Ms. Lazaro decided to return to ABS-CBN in 2005.
Under the leadership of its main anchor and chief driving force Ms. Lazaro, Probe raised the standard in news and public affairs programming by combining intensive and courageous reports with outstanding storytelling and production values.
In its 24 years on the air (during which time it changed formats and program titles -- Probe, The Probe Team, The Probe Team Documentaries, to Probe again, and finally Probe Profiles) the program was never afraid to question the government with pointed features on its officials and projects.
The program provided extensive coverage of calamities like the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, the 1990 earthquake, and infamous maritime disasters like the MV Doña Paz tragedy.
Probe consistently garnered critical acclaim here and abroad, with over 40 trophies from award-giving bodies including Golden Dove Awards, Star Awards, and the New York Festivals.
The show has served as training ground to some of the country’s top broadcast journalists such as Karen Davila, Bernadette Sembrano, Pinky Webb, Twink Macaraig, David Celdran, Tony Velasquez, and a dozen more working on and off cam in local networks and international media organizations like CNN, Reuters, and Al-Jazeera.
Despite the end of Probe Profiles, Ms. Lazaro said Probe Productions will continue churning out quality projects and might return to TV through different projects.
Meanwhile, Ms. Lazaro will still be seen on air as anchor of the weekly program Media in Focus on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.
"For as long as Filipinos look at the nation with probing eyes and minds, the Probe legacy lives on," she said.
